Acer (Taiwan) has strived to become the world's largest PC vendor, believing the goal can help it achieve economies of scale and higher margins. However, relying on the high-volume, low-value PC market exposed Acer when buying habits changed. In September 2018, Acer, which belongs to Taiwan, spun off its smart gadget unit GadgeTek Inc., which produces Leap Beads, bright prayer beads that track mantras and footsteps.
