With a quick Intel 5th Generation Core i5 CPU, over 15 hours of potential battery life, and the most comfortable typing and navigation experience available, Lenovo's ThinkPad T450s elevate mobile productivity to a new level. The 14-inch laptops start at INR 49,670 (INR 60,000 as tested) and are perfect for business users.
The ThinkPad T450s laptop from Lenovo is built to withstand much damage; it has passed MIL-SPEC testing for severe heat, humidity, vibration, sand, shocks, and fungus. It isn't the smallest or lightest business notebook in its size category at 13 x 8.9 x 0.83 inches and 3.8 pounds. The bottom back gains 0.3 inches in thickness and 0.4 pounds of weight when the extended battery is used instead of the default one. But getting a battery with more than twice the life will be worthwhile.
The keys have a firm tactile feel, an actuation force of 63 grams, and 1.9mm of travel. The slight indentation in the keys itself, which makes it simple to navigate, is almost as excellent. A two-mode backlight on the keyboard was bright enough on its lower level and much more potent on its maximum setting.
The standard touchpad and TrackPoint pointing stick have their buttons on the ThinkPad T450s. In response to user feedback, Lenovo restored dedicated buttons on the current model. Pinch-to-zoom, two-finger rotation, and four-finger swipe were examples of multi-touch motions that were, by default, disabled. After increasing the touchpad's speed by a few notches, I discovered that moving my pointer over the screen was simpler.
The touch screen's 1,920 x 1,080 resolution produced clear, vibrant visuals in our tests. The colors of Black Widow's hair and the Hulk's skin were deep and rich in the Avengers: Age of Ultron 1080p teaser, while the battle scars on Captain America's shield truly shone out.
In our tests, the 1,920 x 1,080 touch screen of the Lenovo T450s produced clear, vibrant visuals. Viewing angles were stable up to around 60 degrees to the left or right, but dark hues started to fade at more extreme tips. The screen is not as brilliant as the MacBook Pro's 389 nits, measuring 236 on our light meter.
The speakers of the ThinkPad T450s deliver precise, powerful sound that can fill a sizable room. The audio software Dolby Digital Plus somewhat improves the sound quality. The audio was good enough to dance to, whether I was playing Chic's bass-heavy "Good Times" or Mark Ronson's drum-focused "Uptown Funk."
The ThinkPad T450s kept a pleasant temperature. The touchpad was only 82 degrees, the keyboard was only 85 degrees, and the underbelly was only 89 degrees after 15 minutes of streaming the movie at full screen. Temperatures under 95 degrees are tolerable, but those under 90 are unnoticeable. In other words, you won't experience any heat in typical conditions.
The ThinkPad T450s offers a full complement of ports, allowing you to connect to a range of devices and networks without needing a dongle, in contrast to smaller laptops like the ThinkPad X1 Carbon. A USB 3.0 port, an Ethernet connector, a 4-in-1 card reader, a Kensington lock slot, a VGA out, and a headphone/mic jack are all located on the right side of the device. Business notebooks that lack Ethernet and VGA, which are still common on many conferencing systems and projectors, make it more challenging to connect to wired networks.
A tiny DisplayPort out and two more USB 3.0 ports, for a total of three, are located on the left side. The X1 Carbon features an extension port that needs an adaptor, but the MacBook Pro has an Ethernet port. An SD Card reader is also absent from the X1 Carbon.
The 720p webcam of the T450s took vivid shots of my face, but they were a tad noisy in our office's relatively weak fluorescent lighting. The image was more pixelated but still vivid and realistic in a dark space. The notebook's dual-array mics, which can be tailored for single- or multi-voice discussions, will be appreciated by those who frequently participate in video conferences.
The ThinkPad T450s performed on par with comparably equipped computers like the ThinkPad X1 Carbon but below the category average. The Laptop Spreadsheet Macro test was finished in 4 minutes and 41 seconds. The MacBook Pro 13-inch and its 2.7-GHz Core i5-5257U were noticeably faster on Geekbench 3, an examination of overall performance. A battery life of more than 15 hours is sufficient to fly from New York to Taiwan.
The artificial benchmark for evaluating graphics, 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited, gave the ThinkPad T450s a score of 59,843. Although it lags below the 65,420 category average, many of the thin-and-light items in this category use discrete graphics. A World of Warcraft game with default settings managed to get a highly playable frame rate of 36 fps in 1080p resolution.
Get the ThinkPad T450s, plug in Lenovo's high-capacity battery, and prepare for epic endurance if you want enough power to last an international trip (with Wi-Fi enabled). That is more than twice as long as the thin-and-light laptop category average and is long enough to fly from New York to Taiwan. It even outperformed the T440s by over 3 hours because of its energy-efficient fifth-generation (Broadwell) Core i5 CPU.
With a 2.2-GHz Core i5-5200U CPU, 4GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive, Windows 8.1 non-Pro, and a 1,600 x 900 non-touch screen, the Lenovo ThinkPad T450 starts at INR 49,067.0. If you can cope with less internal capacity, the 128GB SSD costs INR 7,320 more than the 256GB variant. The six-cell back battery, which was only an INR 400 upgrade for the T440s, is worth the money.
Lenovo preloads the ThinkPad T450s with a few helpful utilities and a minimum of crapware. Lenovo Companion provides access to the company's support forums, system updates, and user guides. Pokki Start Menu is a third-party app that launches its "Start menu" without enhancing the Windows 8.1 Start button.
The ThinkPad T450s is the most excellent laptop for productivity, even if you're not buying it for business. Other laptops with good performance and high-res screens can be found for INR 69,150 or more. Still, the T456 distinguishes itself from the competition thanks to its best-in-class keyboard, sturdy chassis, and long-lasting battery at NSS only 20,449 (refurbished laptop price).
The ThinkPad X1 Carbon is a good option if you want more mobility but are ready to sacrifice keyboard comfort and battery life. The MacBook Pro should be close to your list if you want more performance and a brighter display. However, the ThinkPad T450s is your best choice if you want the best productivity and portability combination.
